Ayurveda Hiking Yoga Retreat 

A 3-nights, 4 days rejuvenating retreat in Sri Lanka. Our Yoga teachers lead you through soulful yoga flows and restorative yin practices daily. This retreat is open to all levels of experience, offering an immersive yoga journey with our experienced teachers. Rukgala Retreat offers restorative jungle rejuvenation, yoga in our open-aired shala, wild lake swimming, nutritious food, and hiking in Sri Lanka’s hill country.

Our schedule is relaxed and allows for you to fill your time with as much (or as little) as you please. We have carefully balanced our yoga sessions with a mix of challenging creative practices and soothing yin and restorative.

Hike
The local buddhist temple (Bambaragala) lies at the base of a rock with beautiful 360 degree views of the surrounding area. Join our naturalist for a laid-back hike to the top.

Massage
Experience the traditional practice of Ayurveda massage with a full body 60-minute restorative treatment.

4 Days 3 Nights Retreat

LOCATION

The retreat is close to the town of Digana, 40 minutes from Kandy, Central Sri Lanka. It takes around 3-4 hours by car from Colombo Bandaranaike Airport, alternatively the train is quite scenic from Colombo Fort – Kandy and takes between 2-4 hours. Expect to see rolling hills, sprawling lakes and jungle’s galore.

ACCOMMODATION All of our accommodation is premium, with 8 bespoke rooms consisting of:

Top House – Large AC rooms with personal balconies and lake views. En-suite bathrooms with showers.

2 x Doubles (Kingsize)
1 x Twin (2 single beds)
1 x Dorm (4 single beds)

Garden Cottages – Large AC rooms with outdoor space and lake views. En-suite bathroom with shower and roll-top bathtubs. Consists of a mezzanine level perfect for meditation.

All rooms are the same price and are included in the retreat price.

FOOD

A mixture of local and Western cuisine, daily fresh juices and elixirs, buffet style breakfast and lunch and sit-down three-course dinners. Vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free catered for. Emphasis on healthy yet delicious food offerings.

You’ll start the day with a delicious breakfast consisting of homemade granola, kurrakan bread, peanut butter, fresh fruit, king coconuts & eggs. Lunch consists of a range of salads and grains, whilst dinner offers a three-course flavour feast. In-between there’s plenty of Ayurvedic teas, ceylon coffee, and digestif elixirs.

8am – Flow Yoga
9:30am – Breakfast

1pm – Lunch
*Free-time for swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, sunbathing etc.
5:30pm – Yin Yoga
7pm – Dinner

TEACHERS

Emma Sheridan is our resident lead yoga teacher. She has been sharing her love of yoga as a full-time teacher since 2010. This path has led her to teaching in more than 10 countries, from India and Dubai to Morocco and The Philippines. She has accumulated more than 800 hours of training with inspirational teachers around the world, and offers an encouraging and safe space that supports inward focus and exploration of our potential!
For Emma, yoga has been an immense teacher and gift in her life. Her practice has unlocked an entirely new energy, creativity, passion and joy, and this is what she hopes to inspire in others!

Jasmine Brand-Williamson is a resident yoga teacher at Rukgala. During her time at University, she discovered Yoga as a tool to unwind and de-stress from a heavy workload. Her consistent teaching since early 2018 in both Edinburgh and London has led her to seek out an immersive Yoga environment which Rukgala offers.

In the City, she specialised in teaching corporate clients, creating a relaxed atmosphere and allowing every individual to unwind. Jasmine cultivates an emphasis on creativity and intuition when practicing, bringing an element of personal exploration to her teaching.
