Mundok Moding Plantation | North Bali , a review by Om & Away

I am writing this as i gaze at the full moon of Scorpio and the stars that surround it. Being up here in the mountains at North Bali has given me a whole different perspective of Bali. I have been coming to bali for decades, although i’ve explored the islands of bali – Lembongan, Gilli and Lombok; I haven’t been to the North of Bali. It is about 70km away from the airport. I’ve always felt that it was too far to travel, given that i’m only in bali a few days at a time. However, the trip up here from Seminyak to Munduk Plantation took only two hours. It was a two hour ride that was totally worth it.

As I got out of the car, I was greeted by the cool breeze that caressed my skin. The Munduk Moding Plantation is 1200m above sea level. It is situated at the cloud line, and it made me feel like I was transported to a different country. This was Bali like I have never experienced before. As I walked into the resort, I saw the clouds just hanging in front of me, with the mountains just behind them. It reminded me of the views in New Zealand, only here, instead of sheep, there were guests in bikinis at the pool – win!

I was taken to the suite in the buggy, and I remember it being so cold! I did come from 32 deg beach sun just two hours ago. The suite had a rustic Balinese charm. As it can get chilly in the evenings, you can request for more blankets and a heater.  After a warm dinner, the receptionist told me that it was 16deg. No wonder I had a scarf and a jumper on.

The property sits on a 5.5ha of land, where 3ha is allocated to a coffee plantation. I took a tour of the plantation and the vegetable garden. Apri, the guide did a fantastic job bringing us through the bean variants, the bamboo forests, and the coffee factory. I feel so learned about the coffee making process now, as I delved hands on in the workshops.

The stay here includes all meals and 4 activities a day. All the meals are served in their Mipi Restaurant in front of the pool. That means that you get the incredible view while you dine. The menu boasts Balinese, Indonesian, American, and International fare. Make sure to try their MMP tasting menu, but do order that a day before.

The in-house activities range from coffee roasting workshops, to massage demonstrations, to kite making workshops. There are also shuttle buses to the waterfall, mountains, the lake and the nearby town. You would be spoilt for choice to keep yourself busy. Alternatively, you can really just melt by the pool and enjoy the view.

Check out the instagram posts and you will see this picture. There are infinity pools, and then there is the pool at Munduk Moding Plantation.

They light a bonfire here at night. I was looking the the crackle while breathing in the crisp air. This resort is just beautiful. Spending two nights here on this trip was perfect for me, the serenity and peace at night is unrivaled. Munduk Plantation has 22 rooms and their occupancy is high, be sure to book early to get a spot in this paradise.

We leave you with one more minute of Munduk Moding Plantation’s beauty here!
